Rock Your Blog with Photo Nights Boston on Monday, August 20
Everyone knows that media has changed. The entry level cost for starting your own publication, via a blog, has dropped to exactly nothing. For many, blogging has become a hobby, for others it’s a source of side income and, for still others, it’s a business. But how does one make the jump from late-night hobby to professional publication? With over 156 million blogs currently in existence, there's a lot of clutter to cut through to find your audience. Helping you do just that is Photo Nights Boston (PNB).
PNB is the brainchild of local photographers, photo editors and imaging enthusiasts focused on celebrating the power of photography and engaging the human spirit through public art. The group aims to strengthen connections between business owners, artists and working professionals to integrate the Boston-area creative community like never before. The project is nascent so, to get things going, they are organizing events to serve the dual purpose of raising funds and introducing themselves as a vital source in the community.
PNB's next big event is Rock Your Blog, scheduled for the Microsoft NERD center in Cambridge from 6:30 to 9pm on Monday, August 20. Aimed at bloggers and photographers looking to step up his or her game, Rock Your Blog features a panel of well-known creative professionals who will offer their tips on how to create dynamic blogs and images.
Featured panelists include award winning wedding photographer Leah Haydock, who will introduce attendees to DSLR essentials and talk about marketing yourself to your blog's target audience. Photojournalist Rick Friedman will cover shoot preparation and lighting tips and tricks. Food stylist Catrine Kelty will walk attendees through her creative process and describe how to blast through challenges on the set. Finally, PNB founder and photo editor of The Improper Bostonian Katie Noble, and photographer Dave Bradley will present their Top Ten Tips for great blog photos.
This event is just a sampling of the type of integration and community that Photo Nights Boston plans to create in the season ahead. Attendees can mingle, talk shop and make connections with fellow bloggers, photographers, journalists, stylists, marketers and other creatives. A free photo booth will be provided by Detography and a drawing will be held for a free shoot with fashion photographer Conor Doherty. Education at Photo Nights Boston is a party.
Tickets are $40 and include access to the lectures plus food/drink and extras. All of the proceeds go towards Photo Nights Boston and their effort to bring a major public art event to Boston in the coming year. Buy your tickets here. They're going fast!
