SVA Fashion Photography Graduates Exhibit in New York
Style-conscious photo students won’t want to miss the reception for an exhibit by 2013 graduates of the School of Visual Arts’ Master of Professional Studies (MPS) in Fashion Photography, from 6 to 8pm on Tuesday, December 3. The show, featuring work by 16 international photographers who are actively expanding the medium, whether in service of a brand or artistic vision, is on view at the SVA Gramercy Gallery, 209 East 23rd Street, from November 23 through December 17.
Featured among the exhibiting artists is 2013 graduate Matin Zad, a Toronto, Canada, native whose work has been grabbing attention in the fashion world since winning first place in the Bottega Veneta New Exposure photography competition and being featured in the Levis Photo Assignments series for young artists.
Now in it’s second year, the MPS Fashion Photography department is an intensive one-year degree program offering practicing photographers the opportunity to advance their work under the guidance of photographers, editors, creative directors and digital retouchers positioned at the forefront of fashion today. Bridging the gap between “high” and “low” culture, commercial and fine art photography and still and moving images, department co-chair Stephen Frailey describes the MPS Fashion Photography program as, “engaging with the full complexity of fashion photography as a narrative and conceptual venue, free from aesthetic compromise, and toward a redefinition of the genre in a global community.”
