Bella Egan’s “Trust the Creator”

Posted by on May 12, 2017 | Student Photography

In what began as an experiment to create imagery that emulated her own vision impairment, these photographs by Bella Egan developed into a full series, “Trust the Creator.” The International Center of Photography graduate, who’s currently completing her BFA at St. John’s University in New York City, says that after she cared for her grandfather and both he and her aunt passed away, she found deeper significance in the out-of-focus style she had been working with. “I wanted to make images that transcended visual context,” she explains. “Images [in which] the viewer could still read the emotions and sentiments without all the in-focus details.”

Egan’s work often deals with themes of identity, family and self-reflection, also seen in the previous series we featured here. See more of her work at bellaeganphotography.com.
